Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless. ~ Ecclesiastes 5:10
When our lust for money outgrows our love for Christ, the problem isn't the money... it's the man holding it.
Some people say we should throw away all of our posessions and become poor for the Lord. While it sounds noble, it doesn't fix the problem of the heart. The heart doesn't care how much or how little you have.
Being a good steward of what you have or earn is the best way to honor God and keep your heart in check. There are two things you can do on a regular basis to stay focused on the right prize:
- Fasting: Give up the pursuit of one non-essential thing that money buys you. Pray for God to reveal it and guide you in the fast.
- Giving: Turn the money saved from fasting that "thing" into a blessing for someone in need. Ask God to direct you toward the right place to give.
