Jonathan, welcome brother. There is nothing wrong with researching price and quality before making a purchase. Wait and pray on it, if God wants you to have it you will.

Jonathan, many people have a hobby or a desire to be an early adopter or trend setter. social media is a terrible source of seeing what others have and thinking about what you don't. Living within your means is the only advice, just think, if you lost everything you own in a fire, would you try to buy it all back? Have a hard conversation with yourself of what is WORTH the cost of replacement. only then will you start to consider any new purchases in the same light. is it truly worth buying that you would pay it all again if you lost it?

We also have to be careful not to get so caught up on the Lords work that we don’t invest in our relationship with Him and/or our family.

Lord, open my eyes and heart today that I may see the needs of the world.

Glorious and Loving Father, we come to You today to thank You for the abundant riches You give us. Just to have You in our Hearts makes us the most wealthy person on the earth! Guide us Father, to help others have that same treasure. Help us to keep our focus on You and not the material things of the world. You are sufficient for us, we don’t need material things. In pursuit of the greatest treasure, life eternal with Jesus. Amen

good morning all. I am a brand new member to this and have not been in the faith long. i hope to learn a lot from these teachings on how to make myself a better follower of god and a much better man my family can look up to. this is definitely one of my biggest flaws. i have a hard time immediately buying something i see and want. I am not entirely sure of any practical ways i can fix this problem. would anyone here have any ideas that could help me? thank you guys.

I would pray that we always seek ways to give of our abundance, even when it is not there. God gave and we are commanded to do the same. That which we have is not for us to begin with. Our time, our treasure, our skills and abilities, are all meant to be given to the hurting and the lost to build relationships that last. We cannot take anything into the Kingdom, but we can take as many people as possible.

Yes sir, a common human characteristic is to receive, and less giving. But your right on when you say we should give according to the Holy Spirits direction. When the opportunity presents itself that you can shine some light and speak life into a broken heart, the Holy Spirit equips us with the proper words and guidance for that weary soul. But it is our obligation as His ambassadors to keep our eyes open and be sharp in His Word.

Amen, JC. We don’t take a vow of poverty, we make a promise to serve. Each of us should serve and give according to the Spirit’s direction. Sometimes we are greedy with our time... spending it foolishly or hoarding it for ourselves. Guilty on that one some days.

Amazing words brother. That world has made us believe that we need the newest cars, the biggest houses, and the expensive clothing. People get so lost in pursuit of all these things and desire them more than the thirst for Christ. We should be entirely grateful for each blessing God gives us.

DAY 51: How Much Is Enough?

Then he [Jesus] said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”  Luke 12:15

Keeping God first and the needs of others in plain sight helps us to become a "walking blessing."  Your extra can of beans in the cupboard may be more than most will eat today.

There is nothing wrong with having "stuff".  Just be careful not to make that "stuff" your "god".

Today, would you ask God to show where you are abundant? Then seek ways to bless others.  A man who is a blessing to others unlocks joy - almost immediately.
