And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. ~ Luke 2: 8-10
On the night Christ was born, the palaces were quiet, the noble class were cozy in their homes, and the world slept. Meanwhile the 3rd shift shepherds were wide awake and working.
God chose to make the birth announcement of Jesus Christ to a group of shepherds working the night shift - not to the high class nor the self-appointed "important people".
This Christmas, think about how Christ humbly came into the world for all of humankind. As followers of Christ, we are the hard-working messengers of God who have been chosen to carry the good news of Christ to a sleeping world.
Will you carry that message forward today?
