Read this a little late today. So pracical idea that I try and implement, I take three breaks throughout the day and pray over three different passages. Does anyone else have any good ideas how to make a balance while at work?

You are not a partial God. You want all of me. You want my personal life at home, with friends, and with family, but You also want my professional life at work, with co-workers, employers and customers. I want You to be the center of my life no matter where I am or what I'm doing. Continue to teach me how to keep You in my daily life.

Lord, after a busy day at work I needed this today, Help me to put you to work at my job and not forget that I have everything I need through you.

Lord God thanks for your generous provision. I pray for contentment today, help me to see that my one handful is more than enough. Help me to dream on things that give glory to you. Grant me peace in the understanding that the accumulation of material wealth is not a sign of your abundance. Help me to use that which you provide wisely and for your glory.

Father God, Lord of All, we come to Your heavenly throne today to thank You for the opportunity You have given us to work and be productive with our lives. All can do something, with nothing being to menial but part of Your total plan. Let us all work as if working for You and be glad in what we are able to do. Let our work give glory to You and never be the most important thing in our life. Praying in the name of Jesus. Amen.

DAY 212: Work and Life Balance

And I saw that all toil and all achievement spring from one person’s envy of another. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.  Fools fold their hands and ruin themselves. Better one handful with tranquillity than two handfuls with toil and chasing after the wind.  ~ Ecclesiastes 4: 4-6

Let's be clear, God gave men the curse of working the soil by the sweat of our brow. It's our duty to work for our food, our well-being, and our livlihood.

However, work was never designed to be our god - rather - it was given to us to remind us of God.  Our work was given to us to use as a blessing for ourselves and others.

Today, as you put your hands to the wheel (in whatever your endeavor), remember to pursue balance.  Working to keep up with "the neighbors" is a fast way to idolizing your job. Just as sitting around and neglecting the one thing God gave men to do... is a fast track to dark days.

How is your work/life balance?  Are you chasing the job more than God? Are you neglecting your work so you can "goof off" with your buddies?
