THE PRAYER CHALLENGE
SET YOUR COURSE:
Prayer is the ongoing communication between you and God through the intermediary of Jesus Christ. Like anyone in your life, if you want to know them better - you need to talk to them regularly.
Jesus Christ came to set the tone of our prayers. He gave us a template to follow for our prayer life. Carefully read the Lord's Prayer in Matthew 6: 9-13
“This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’
Jesus is telling us to how to bow our hearts to God's power and grace. Then he leads us to ask that God's greatness become evident right where we are.
Our duty in Prayer is to ask God to help guide us to our needs so we can request them from Him. This practice helps us make our "wants" second to what God plants in our life as "needs". It's then, that we are set for God to give us the desires of our heart.
Jesus also tells us in the book of John (15:7) about living with Christ in our heart and how that impacts our prayer life...
If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
The Apostle Paul helps us understand what Jesus was saying about abiding in Him... look in Romans 8:26-27
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.
God set the stage about the importance of prayer early. He gave us a simple, but clear message by letting us know what prayer can do for our relationship with him. In Jeremiah 28: 11-13, God tells us this...
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.
So if you want to pray your life forward, you need to understand the Holy power you are unleashing into your life. Prayers aren't just reserved for the last minute shot to save the game... they are every day conversations which forms our relationship for the entire game of life.
If you want your life to move forward in Christ... you have to pray it forward - which begins by seeking God with all your heart.
