MARCH 2019

      SET YOUR COURSE:

Forgiveness is what the Cross of Christ is all about. God reached down from heaven, walked in human skin, endured the challenges of humanity, and forgave us for falling a little short.

God tells us through the Psalms about our relationship to His grace and forgiveness:

He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor punished us according to our iniquities. For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us. - Psalm 103:10-12

The prophet, Michah, speaks God's desires about how He forgives:

Who is a God like You, pardoning iniquity and passing over the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He does not retain His anger forever, because He delights in mercy. He will again have compassion on us, and will subdue our iniquities. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea. ~ Micah 7:18-19

Jesus came to hammer down the nail of forgiveness. He assumes we "get it" ---  that we are forigven through His mercy. But he takes it one step further.  We must forgive others if we want the same.

And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. ~ Mark 11:25

The key to peace and freedom has more to do with how you forgive others than whether or not God has forgiven you.

If you believe Jesus died as the sacrifice for all of your mistakes, then you have been given a master key to unlock a life of peace. That key is called: "forgiveness".

To truly receive the peace, joy, contentment, and freedom from darkness - it's necessary to put your master key in the locks of:

  • Grudges
  • Bitterness
  • Envy
  • Deceit
  • Lies
  • Hate
  • Revenge

Remember that people who are hurting -- hurt other people. Wrongs will happen. Mistakes against your pride, your name, your integrity will be made. Remember that Jesus forgave your imperfect life. And you can do the same through His strength for others.

Jesus has given you the master key for living - it's called grace and forgiveness. Now, it's your turn to do as He teaches -- to forgive others. This is the key to making your life whole and filled with joy, peace, and contentment.

KEY VERSE: "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you." - MATTHEW 6:14

CHALLENGE:  Forgive one person this month

  1. Prayerfully remember the people who you feel have wronged you
  2. Choose one person from your "list" and pray for them daily for 30 days (This may be a short and simple prayer, asking God to protect them and walk with them. You'll know what to say.)
  3. At the close of 30 days - forgive them. Release them from your unforgiveness. (in person or in spirit)
  4. Then give God praise for their life and how their wrong made you a better man.

Remember that forgiving isn't about "forgetting". In fact, it's often good to remember the hell you experienced because of someone's actions.

Remembering can help prevent you from returning to the same toxic situations.

Forgiving is about cancelling the debt you feel someone owes you. Once forgiveness is offered, it's no longer a part of your life.
